Thank you for this! How much would you recommend charging for script reads?

Hey Sarah! It honestly depends. I'd say min. should be $150 but it really depends on the agreement (perpetuity, limited usage, how long the script is, where they're running it). Figure out a starting rate that protects your time as a min. and then adjust it based on the terms and length of the script!

I have a brand wanting me to use a microphone (which I don’t have). Can you go over what you would recommend for good audio on a script read and also just content videos in general?

Hey Amber, I'm sorry for just now coming across this comment! I'll do a video on this - but to answer it now, I use a shot gun mic, connected to a zoom. That's kind of advanced for some creators, so as long as you're in a quiet setting, more lavs or podcast mics do the job. I'll do a video though on audio equipment this week though!

I was also wanting to ask, what are appropriate rates to charge for script reading?

Hi! This isn’t necessarily related to this article but I trust your expertise as I’ve been searching high and low for the correct answer.. when creating ugc concepts for brands are we or are we not allowed to use trending audio? I’m not talking about songs (I understand that a license needs to be purchased), I’m talking about original sounds created by tiktoker’s like the “don’t be suspicious” one for example. Thanks for continuing to be a force and provide real actionable information!!! You’re appreciated!

Hey Victoria! To avoid copyright infringement from record labels - avoid any songs that are of popular artists. There is a landmark lawsuit between Iconic London and Warner Bros which could end up leaving the influencers/creative contractors holding the bag and owing Iconic London a ton of money for using songs that were trending because they're considered copyright infringement!

Ive been receiving a lot of inbounds for script reads lately and enjoy doing them. I just am unsure of what the industry standard is for pricing this service.
